Archery England are disappointed to learn of the news from the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and World Archery of the cancellation of the Commonwealth Archery Championships 2022 which were due to held in Chandigarh, India in January 2022.
Whilst it was an event we were all looking forward to, we understand the medical and security reasons stipulated from CGF and we fully support any decision made in the interests of athlete, official and volunteer welfare.
We share the huge disappointment with our friends in Commonwealth Games India, especially after all the planning and preparation towards what would have been a showcase for our sport.
We also fully support our friends in India, the Commonwealth Games India and across the Commonwealth Archery Community.
We wish to place on record our appreciation to everyone at Archery England who was involved in the preparation and planning for our participation in the Championships, and to the UK Home Nations who have worked together to raise the profile of archery in the Commonwealth Nations.
Archery England will now focus on making events in 2021 a success, in particular the Commonwealth Championship for Europe (CACE) to be held at Lilleshall on 27th/28th August. This will provide an ideal opportunity to showcase the quality of Commonwealth Archery across Europe.
